Muslims in West Africa – Download Their Story
We have great stories and involvement with these people that you too could make a difference with. Ask us. Here is our latest story with them written by a member, Rob Panza who has made ten trips to them and months among them.
MAJOR OPPORTUNITY TO RAPIDLY EXPAND THE GOSPEL IN WEST AFRICA
As most of you know, Mountain Bible Church (MBC), and seven other churches in America, have been supporting Daoud’s* West African outreach to his nomadic people (Known as the Teleqan* who are now Muslim but were originally Jews a 1,000 years ago). Being a Jewish people remember this promise of God: “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘Like these good figs, I regard as good the exiles from Judah, whom I sent away from this place to the land of the Babylonians. My eyes will watch over them for their good, and I will bring them back to this land. I will build them up and not tear them down; I will plant them and not uproot them. I will give them a heart to know me, that I am the Lord. They will be my people, and I will be their God, for they will return to me with all their heart.” Jeremiah 24:5-7
Our role has been to aid Daoud’s Bible translation work and to help meet other critical needs. A few years ago a local believer in the Santa Cruz Mountains, Ron Marlin, encouraged us to record Daoud’s translations and set up a small radio station to transmit this information in Daoud’s home area. Just before Daoud tried to install the radio system local Jihadists began to rein terror on the Teleqan people making the radio station unsafe to install. None-the-less, Daoud continued to make audio recordings of his translation work but with no means to distribute it. 12 books of the Bible have now been recorded along with some medical training lessons, local proverbs, and Christian stories in their own language plus other local languages familiar to the Teleqan.
The only current way for his people to hear the Bible work he has translated is to print it in small books so that the few available literate people can read it to them at small informal gatherings. Over the past few years many Teleqan have purchased cell phones which they use when cell service is available to them. A recent technology improvement now allows those with phones to upgrade their SIM cards to be able to receive and store audio programming. These new cards are capable of holding most, if not all, of Daoud’s recorded work.
It costs only $15 per SIM card to provide, produce and record this capability for local Teleqan cell phones. It should be noted that these recordings will be received with great interest since they are the only available audio information in the Teleqan language. Additionally, these same cards can be easily re-formatted with new information as updates occur. Once this new capability becomes readily available the number of Teleqan with safe access to the Gospel will grow exponentially, and should easily exceed the outreach of our original radio station plan. This story stands as a powerful current reminder that God stands by his promises and never forgets or forsakes any of us.
