Friends come and friends go, but a true friend sticks by you like family. – Proverbs 18:24
This week, my dear friend David Moko will be preaching. He is a pastor at a church in Santa Barbara and he is in a prayer group with Rob Panza‘s son Chris there. Chris told David about the pastoral position at MBC a while back. David wasn’t interested, but he told me about the opportunity, and voila, God at work! You can blame David if you are not satisfied with your new pastor. What was his name again? Who pronounces a “w” like a “v” in their name anyway?
David and I were housemates at Fuller Seminary in Pasadena over a decade ago. We have maintained a deep friendship in spite of living far away from each other for many years. David is, hands down, one of the best friends/people I’ve ever met. He is a straight-up Jesus-centric guy. For years, we have read the Gospels together and turned them over in our minds and hearts. Not too long ago, David told me, “I just want to know more of Jesus.” This is who he is, and his wife is the same way!
In the photo above, taken right before I got married, David and I were in Hawaii together. He literally flew from Indonesia to Hawaii just for the wedding. Who does that? A friend who has truly become family. This is one of the rarest and most valuable treasures in life. Please pray for him and his beloved family, wife Joy and two kids, Kawika (6, I wonder who he was named after? Not that I am boasting or anything because I’m not) and Amaya (4, I may be off on those numbers a little. What kind of an uncle am I?).
Ponder who your closest friends are and reach out to them this week. They are truly a gift from God. Blessings in our greatest friend and Savior, Jesus Christ. – Pastor Kawika Haglund
